Stephen Gately Doubtful For Celebrity Big Brother

Ex Boyzone singer Stephen Gately is rumoured to be a doubt for the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother after choking on his own vomit and dying whilst on holiday.

A spokesman for Channel 4 said: “While our sympathy obviously goes out to the family and friends of Mr Gately, he did sign a legally binding contract to appear on the series, and we fully expect him to carry out his contractual obligations.”

It is not yet known what the channel has planned if the singer is forced to appear on the show, with many suggesting that his participation may be unworkable, given that he would find it hard to take part in tasks and to move freely about the house. This criticism prompted Channel 4 to issue a further statement on its website, saying that “should Mr Gately appear on the show we would of course take great care to make sure that his dignity was retained at all times, despite his obvious disability.” The statement then goes on to describe “an intricate system of pulleys and levers” which could be used to ferry the singer around the set, giving him the same freedom of movement that all the other contestants would enjoy.

However, a Channel 4 insider said that another potentially big logistical problem they would face if Gately was allowed to do the show is the question of how he would get into the house on the opening night, with producers keen to avoid the option of just rolling him down the stairs for one of the other contestants to drag in through the door.

“Hopefully he’ll do the show", said host Davina McCall. "I think all this talk about whether or not he's actually willing to do the show has been blown out of all proportion. He's probably just got cold feet."

Other celebrities rumoured to be taking part in the show are apparently not so keen to be locked up in a house for over a month with Gately, citing the fact that he is dead as the reason for their unhappiness. “Are you fucking kidding me”, said one of the rumoured participants. “He’s fucking dead”.
