Fans Complain About 'Funereal' Atmosphere At Jackson Memorial Show
Wednesday 8 July 2009
Thousands of angry Michael Jackson fans were demanding answers today after they criticised the atmosphere during yesterday’s memorial concert, with many claiming that it “felt like a funeral”.
“I went there expecting to see Mariah Carey and Stevie Wonder belt out Jackson’s hits”, said one furious fan, “and that was just depressing.”
Several hundred fans that attended the service have even enquired about suing several of the acts involved, apparently claiming that they did wilfully and knowingly perform well below the required standard for a gig of that size, seemingly mocking those in attendance who had all been feeling incredibly pleased with themselves for several days leading up to the event, and who then had to sit there and have that feeling crushed by the depressing lack of energy from all the performers on show.
“Did you see Usher do one dance move”, said a woman who had travelled thousands of miles to see the show. “That’s his whole thing! It’s like the Jackson’s reforming
and not singing ABC. Oh wait, that actually happened as well!”
Organisers had apparently planned for Kanye West to perform a version of Smooth Criminal half way through the show which would have got the 8,500 fans inside the Staples Centre clapping and singing along, but it has since emerged that the singer backed out at the last minute after his demands for a giant video wall and pyrotechnic display were not met.
“It is true that Kanye was originally booked to play”, said producer Kenny Ortega, “and that Elton John also turned down the chance to attend when we explained that Candle in the Wind was not a relevant song option, but I’m happy with the show we managed to put on at such short notice, and if Kanye is watching, I’d just like to say that although there are no hard feelings, he might want to check the brakes on his car for the next few weeks. God bless Michael Jackson."
